Old Temple Musa Khatian
The Old Temple Musa Khatian is situated in Tando Allahyar district of Sindh province and lies near the town of Tando Jam. This historically significant Hindu temple is estimated to be over a century old, holding great importance for local Hindus. November through February are considered ideal months to visit this site due its cooler weather during these winter months in Pakistan's southern regions.
The best time to visit is during November, December, January and February. These months offer the most favorable conditions for visitors.
Look for the Mandap, Garbhagriya, and the Shikara tower, which are key components of its traditional structure. You can also find an ancient well on the premises, though it has been closed for safety.
Photography is usually allowed in the outer Mandap and the courtyard, but you should refrain from taking photos inside the Garbhagriya (inner sanctum) out of respect for the deity.
Visitors must respect the site as a place of worship and heritage; do not remove any loose stones or bricks from the decaying sections. Since the temple has undergone recent restoration by the Sindh Heritage Department, walking on fragile renovated surfaces is discouraged.
There are no formal guides, but the local Hindu community members who maintain the temple are often willing to explain its century-old history and recent restoration.
Mid-morning light is ideal for capturing the textures of the old brickwork and the details of the Shikara. Wide-angle shots are recommended to include the surrounding landscape, which was historically part of the temple's larger estate.
The restoration has improved the grounds, but the traditional architecture includes raised platforms and narrow doorways that may still pose challenges for wheelchair users.
There are no shops at the temple itself; most visitors stop for food and water in Tando Jam or Tando Allahyar before heading into the rural village area.
