Hingorani Maariyon
Hingorani Maariyon is an intriguing historical site situated in Tando Muhammad Khan district of Sindh province. Constructed during the 18th century under Talpur architecture, this abandoned settlement offers a unique glimpse into Pakistan's past. The complex features two mosques and one tomb that once formed part of a prosperous town for Hingorani Syeds in the Kalhora era. Today, these ruins stand as silent witnesses to their forgotten grandeur amidst desolate landscapes.
The best time to visit is during November, December, January and February. These months offer the most favorable conditions for visitors.
Hingorani Maariyon dates back to 18th century.
Hingorani Maariyon features Talpur architecture.
Focus on the surviving three-domed mosque, where the central dome is larger than the others, and a separate single-domed tomb lavishly decorated with floral designs. You can also see the remains of a courtyard and a skillfully hidden staircase within the northern wall of the prayer chamber.
The site is an isolated ruin with no commercial facilities; visitors must carry their own food, water, and essential supplies from Hyderabad or Tando Muhammad Khan.
The site was historically documented as a prosperous agricultural town of the Hingorani Syeds before being destroyed by the Afghan invader Madad Ali Khan around 1775 AD. While no major modern archaeological excavation has occurred, the site has been formally surveyed by the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology, University of Sindh.
There is no formal parking lot; visitors typically park their vehicles on the side of the unpaved tracks near the ruins, ensuring they do not block the path for local agricultural machinery.
The structures are in a fragile, neglected state, so avoid climbing on the ruins or entering chambers that appear structurally unstable. Do not remove any loose masonry or debris, as the site is a protected monument under the Sindh Cultural Heritage Act.
There are no official tour guides at the site; it is best to visit with a local expert from Hyderabad or research the history of the Kalhora-era structures beforehand.
The area consists of uneven, sandy terrain and crumbling structures with no paved paths, making it very difficult for wheelchair users to navigate.
