Deosai National Park in Skardu District, Gilgit-Baltistan is home to the Himalayan Marmot, a large ground squirrel adapted for high altitude alpine grasslands that attracts visitors during summer months (July through September). The park requires an entry fee of PKR 1000 and access by four-wheel drive vehicles due to its rugged terrain. In the daytime, these sociable creatures can be seen sunbathing on rocks or foraging near their burrows across this scenic landscape that also serves as habitat for Tibetan red foxes and birds of prey. To observe them at close range without disrupting natural behaviors like hibernation preparation, it's best to avoid feeding the marmots during your visit.
