Coastal semi-desert
The coastal semi-desert, a distinctive characteristic of Hingol National Park situated within the Lasbela District of Balochistan province in Pakistan, offers an unique experience for visitors during its best season from November to February. Accessible by road and set along the Makran coastline, this expansive area is characterized predominantly by vast tracts of drift sand interspersed with diverse topographical features such as mud volcanoes and Hingol River estuary.
This ecosystem bridges the Arabian Sea and the inland mountains. It features specialized xerophytic vegetation. Avoid visiting in summer (May-August) when heat and humidity are extremely high.

Keep high-quality dust masks and wrap-around goggles in your vehicle to protect against fine coastal silt. If a storm hits while driving the Makran Coastal Highway, pull over safely as visibility can drop to near zero instantly.
A high-clearance 4x4 vehicle with low-range gearing is essential if you plan to leave the paved highway. It is also recommended to carry a portable air compressor to adjust tire pressure for better traction on the drift sand.
Camping is permitted in designated areas, but you must bring sand stakes for your tent to withstand strong coastal winds. Avoid camping in low-lying dry riverbeds (nullahs) due to the risk of flash floods even if it isn't raining locally.
Night temperatures are generally milder than inland deserts due to sea breezes, but they can still drop to around 10°C to 15°C in winter. Humidity remains high, so expect significant dew on your gear by morning.
