Neelum River
The Neelum (or locally known as Kishanganga) River, located in Muzaffarabad District's scenic valley of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, is a known waterway that traverses the region shared by India and Pakistan. Accessible via road networks during May through September months—the best season to visit this scenic destination — it originates from Ganderbal district in Indian-administered territory before flowing into Pakistani lands where parts of its course run parallel with the Line of Control (LOC).

The river current is extremely strong and the water is very cold, so swimming is strictly discouraged and children should be closely supervised. During the monsoon season, water levels can rise rapidly, making it dangerous to stay on the lower banks.
Many riverside 'Dhabas' and restaurants offer fresh trout fish, chicken karahi, and traditional snacks like pakoras. A popular experience is sitting on 'charpoys' placed directly in the shallow edges of the water while enjoying a meal.
Designated parking areas are available along the main road near popular spots like the Neelum-Jhelum junction. From these parking points, a short 5-to-10-minute walk down steep paths usually leads directly to the riverbank seating areas.
A visit to the confluence point where the green Neelum River meets the muddy Jhelum River offers a fascinating visual contrast. You can also find riverside spots that offer basic water activities like tire-tube floating in calmer, designated sections.
